Environmental Specialist (Air, Climate, Energy, Health)/Lead Authors, IPCC

Dr. Bhupendra Das holds two master’s degrees — Environmental Technology (Teesside University, UK) and Environmental Science (Tribhuvan University, Nepal) — and a PhD in Environmental Science specialising in air pollution and emission inventory, completed at Tribhuvan University with a Fellowship from the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST).

With more than 15 years of experience at local, national and international levels in emission inventory, climate change and clean energy, Dr. Das currently serves as an IPCC Lead Author for the 2027 IPCC Methodology Report on Inventories for Short-lived Climate Forcers (SLCPs). He is also a Researcher at the Centre of Research for Environment, Energy and Water (CREEW), focusing on GHG emissions inventory, air quality and pollution, energy, and climate change.

Dr. Das has published over a dozen research articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and has more than 10 years of teaching experience. His work has taken him from national air quality monitoring programmes to international policy assessments — including projects with ICIMOD, WHO Nepal, GGGI, and Nepal’s Academy of Science and Technology.

 Recognition: Science and Technology Promotion Award, awarded by the Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal on the recommendation of NAST (2023), for contributions to air quality management; Young Scientist Award, International Scientist Awards on Engineering, Science & Medicine (2021).
